Southwest of downtown Austin lies Sunset Valley, an independent community, founded in 1954. Structured to nurture the lifestyle of a small town, the city is dedicated to preserving the quality of life of their citizens through volunteer services, public services, well-managed parks and schools.
Eight miles southwest of Austin lies Oak Hill, on U.S. Highway 290 and Williamson Creek. Originally called Live Oak Springs, the community boomed in the 1880?s because of its nearby stone quarries, which furnished the stone for the construction of the State capital. Oak Hill is close enough for a short drive to the city of Austin, but far enough away to feel like it is in the country. Rolling hills and oak trees define the neighborhoods, with small shopping centers and local restaurants. The Pinnacle Campus of the Austin Community college is located in a high rise building in Oak Hill. The campus houses a full career library, telecommunications-based courses and a display area for student art.
